Shimla, December 1:
Himachal Pradesh just went through one of its driest Novembers in history, with the state logging only 1 mm of rainfall—a whopping 95% below normal and the 9th lowest November rainfall since 1901. IMD Shimla confirmed that only in 1983 and 2021 was November this dry.
Except for one normal-activity day on November 5, the entire month saw either weak weather activity or clear skies.
Even hill districts that usually get early winter precipitation—Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu—also remained largely dry.
Districts Bone-Dry
Every district reported “large deficient rainfall,” with places like Mandi and Sirmaur practically seeing zero precipitation all month. Even typically wetter pockets such as Chamba and Kangra showed a –99% departure from normal.
Fog Takes Over the Plains
While rain stayed away, dense fog gripped Mandi and Bilaspur repeatedly.
Mandi saw 9 days of dense fog.
Bilaspur reported 7 days, with visibility dropping to just 100–150 metres on multiple days.
Light Snow Only in Upper Reaches
Snowfall activity remained minimal, recorded only at a few stations such as Keylong (trace) and Koksar (8.6 cm) on November 6.
Weather Outlook
The IMD predicts light rain/snow at isolated mid and high-hill regions on December 1, 4 and 5, while the rest of the week is likely to stay dry.
