Panic in Solang: 8 Houses Evacuated as Heavy Rains Trigger Sinking, Landslide Threat
MANALI/KULLU, AUG 31:
The historic Solang Nala village, barely 10–15 km from the tourist town of Manali, is staring at a looming disaster as heavy rains have triggered sinking and sliding in the area.
At least eight houses have already been evacuated after developing cracks or posing danger to residents, while several more are at risk as the land continues to give way.
Villagers, left to fend for themselves, have pitched tarpaulins and dug makeshift drains to divert gushing rainwater away from their homes.
But the deepening cut of Solang Nala, slicing through the village, has left panic in its wake, with fears of a major landslide hanging heavy.
Former minister and ex Manali MLA Govind Singh Thakur rushed to the spot today and expressed grave concern over the plight of the villagers.
He said no official rescue team has reached the village so far.
“Immediate expert intervention is needed to channelize the water flow and prevent further sinking,” he urged, demanding that authorities dispatch teams without delay.
For now, displaced families are taking shelter with relatives in nearby hamlets, while locals say they urgently need at least 50 more tarpaulins to stop rainwater from seeping into the danger zone.
With every fresh downpour, the risk of collapse only grows, leaving Solang —a village famous for adventure tourism—on edge.
