SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh is proving to be a powerhouse in winter sports, with 24 athletes and coaches making it to the 49-member Indian contingent for the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, from March 7 to 16, 2025.
This marks a historic moment for the state, reaffirming its dominance in skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and floorball.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu gave a warm send-off to the athletes, expressing confidence in their ability to bring laurels to both the state and the country.

The Himachal government has significantly increased prize money for medal winners, making it one of the most rewarding states for athletes.
Olympic and Paralympic gold medalists will now receive ₹5 crore, silver medalists ₹3 crore, and bronze winners ₹2 crore.
The rewards for Asian Games, Asian Para Games, and Commonwealth Games have also been hiked substantially, ensuring that talent gets the recognition and support it deserves.

Their participation in the upcoming Special Olympics is just another feather in the cap for a state that continues to punch above its weight in the sporting arena.
