SHIMLA: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the flood-hit areas of Rohru, Rampur and Theog constituencies today and Jubbal-Kotkhai and Chopal yesterday to assess the damage caused by heavy rains in the Shimla district. He directed officers to restore all link roads by August15 and distribute Rs one Lakh each to victims who lost their houses to the floods.
Sukhu accompanied by PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, local MLAs Mohan Lal Brakta, Rohru, Kuldeep Singh Rathour Theog, ex-MLA Rakesh Singha, Rampur MLA Nand Lal, interacted with local residents and listened to their concerns about blocked roads, disrupted water supply, and damaged houses.
In Rohru he toured the Laila area of Rorhu and sought report on the damage from the local administration in 12 hours time to distribute relief to the victims. He directed officers to retore all link roads by August 15 to facilitate transport of apple to the markets.
Sukhu announced the release of Rs. 1.65 crore for the urgent repair of roads and bridges connecting villages in Chopal, Jubbal-Kotkhai, and Rohru assembly constituencies.
Each development block in Jubbal, Kotkhai, Rohru, and Chauhara has been allotted Rs. 30 lakh, with an additional Rs. 45 lakh earmarked for immediate repairs of link roads in 15 Panchayats of Balsan in Chopal.
Sukhu said over Rs. 110 crore has been allocated to the Public Works Department for repairing roads in apple-centric areas of the state.
Responding to the demands of the affected communities, the Chief Minister instructed the release of immediate financial assistance of one lakh rupees each to around 50 families in Thana Nankhadi, Barog, and Kungan-Balti panchayats to aid in repairing their houses.
He also directed the officers to provide of one lakh rupees to those whose homes were fully or partially damaged in Poonan village of Barog panchayat and Jawalda village of Bagalti panchayat due to heavy rainfall.
During the visits, CM said that the government's priority is to assist farmers in transporting their produce to markets, and he urged swift action in restoring roads in Theog and Rampur segments.
He said he has announced the release of Rs 2 lakh minimum to each gram panchaytas of Nankhari block and the effected people will get the assistance by tomorrow.
He further revealed plans for a follow-up visit to review the progress made on his directives.
The Chief Minister also visited the disaster affected areas of Jarol, Khaneti and Kotgarh of Theog assembly constituency and announced an amount of rupees five lakh for the repair of eight link roads of Gram Panchayat Jarol.
Meanwhile, earlier Vikramaditya Singh and Brakta also engaged with villagers from Badiyara, Jangla, Todsa, Devidhar, and others and redressed their grievances.
He inspected Civil Hospital in Rohru and pledged to address the staff shortages promptly. Singh expressed his concern about encroachments by shopkeepers at the Rohru bus stand and instructed officials to look into the matter.
He also took a look at the neighboring gaushala (cow shelter) and gave instructions to enhance its upkeep.
Among those present during the visits were also Chairman of State Cooperative Bank Devendar Shyam, Chairman of Forest Corporation Kehar Singh Khachi, DC Aditya Negi, and SP Sanjeev Gandhi.
CM Sukhu accompanied by Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan had toured the landslides-hit areas of Jubbal- Kotkhai yesterday and interacted with the victims. He had ordered the restoration of all ling roads by August 15 to facilitate apple transportation to the markets.
