Pratbha Singh Mandi MP and Congress president

Shimla, June 27: State Congress President and Mandi Lok Sabha MP Pratibha Singh has demanded urgent and substantial relief from the Modi government at the center to alleviate the losses that the state has suffered due to  devastating aftermath of heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh.

The state is reeling from the disastrous impact, with a rising death toll of six individuals and 10 others left injured due to weather-related incidents.

The downpour has also claimed the lives of 300 heads of cattle and herds, compounding the distress of the affected migratory Gaddi, Gujjar, Kinnauri, Dodra Kuar herdsmen and other communities.

Singh emphasized the urgent need for a special economic package to be provided by the Central Government. The funds are needed for the rescue and relief efforts to be swiftly expedited, she said.

The torrential rains have inflicted extensive damage, leaving roads, bridges, and crops in ruins across the state. Such a dire situation necessitates immediate intervention and support from the Centre, she said.

Pratibha Singh urged the Central Government to promptly dispatch a dedicated team to Himachal Pradesh to assess losses  the state has suffered.

She called for a comprehensive report on the landslides, damage to infrastructure, and loss of crops to be submitted, enabling effective measures to be taken without delay and ensuring minimal inconvenience to the affected population.

Mandi MP also demanded a thorough report from the district administrations of Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, and Shimla, particularly focusing on the loss of life, property, roads, and crops in her parliamentary constituency of Mandi.

She intends to advocate for swift compensation from the Central Government to aid in the recovery efforts.

Recognizing the coming apple season in the state, she urged the administration to prioritize the repair of main roads and link roads, as they serve as vital lifelines for the transportation of agricultural produce.

She specifically called upon the National Highways Authority to undertake urgent repairs on the Kullu National Highway, paying immediate attention to landslide-prone areas.

This plea from Pratibha Singh stands as a stark reminder of the pressing need for immediate relief and assistance from the Modi government.

People need timely support and funds to mitigate the devastating impact of the heavy rains and initiate the process of rebuilding shattered lives and communities, she said.
