Shimla: Hundreds of farmers and laborers under the banner of Himachal Kisan Sabha and CITU staged a protest against the Sunni Dam Hydro Project, presenting ten demands.
The demonstrators maintained a continuous sit-in outside the Ritwik Company office from morning to evening.
The agitation concluded with the reinstatement of eight laborers dismissed unlawfully from their jobs.
Warning that the protest will intensify if the demands of farmers and laborers are not met promptly, the rally featured addresses from speakers including Rakesh Singha, Vijendra Mehra, Kundan Lal Sharma, Bhimi Ram Sharma, Amit Kumar, Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, and Kuldeep Dogra.
Speakers highlighted the blatant violation of rights of affected farmers and laborers in the Sunni Dam Hydro Project.
Grievances included inadequate compensation for land, absence of proper compensation in lieu of land, ongoing dumping despite local opposition, denial of dust allowance, lack of employment for locals, substandard wages for project laborers, excessive working hours without overtime pay, and the non-provision of safety equipment.
The demonstrators warned of escalating the protest if their demands remain unmet.
