Una: In a commendable display of prompt action, Himachal Pradesh Police personnel stationed at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station in Una averted a potential tragedy on January 4, 2024.

The Media Houses in Shimla were alerted by an individual named Bajariya E.S. Prabhu, who informed them about a person intending to commit suicide by standing in front of a train on the railway line in Una.

The distressed individual claimed to have been deceived by a woman, leading him to contemplate such a drastic step.

Upon receiving the information, Additional Police Superintendent Narveer Singh Rathore immediately informed GRP Thana Kangra and GRP Station Una.

Quick directives were issued to the police personnel, and an effective plan was devised.

The location of the distressed individual's mobile phone was traced, and a police team from GRP Station Una was positioned strategically in the cabin of the locomotive of an approaching train from Daulatpur to Una.

As the train neared Una, a vigilant police officer spotted the individual near the tracks. Swiftly, the police descended from the train, apprehending the person identified as E.S. Prabhu, a former Indian Army soldier from Tamil Nadu, who claimed to have intentions of suicide due to personal betrayal.

The GRP Una team took immediate legal action under sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC, ensuring the safety and well-being of Prabhu.

On January 5, he was presented before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Una. Further investigations revealed that Prabhu, a former havildar in the Indian Army, had been declared a deserter in 2022 after failing to rejoin duty upon the expiration of his leave.

The timely and effective intervention by the GRP Una police, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Ajay Arya, along with constables Anand, Raman Sharma, Kamal Dev, Rahul, and Anil, succeeded in preventing the tragic incident.

Director-General of Police (Traffic and Railways) Gurudev Chand Sharma praised the GRP police personnel for their commendable and successful efforts in saving a life.
