SHIMLA/NEWDELHI:  In the wake of devastating floods wreaking havoc in the state, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, urgently seeking financial assistance to aid in the recovery and relief efforts.

During the meeting, CM Sukhu briefed the Prime Minister about the extensive losses incurred by the state as a result of heavy rainfall.

The torrential downpours caused widespread destruction to critical infrastructure, including Highways, Link Roads, Irrigation systems, and Electric and water supply schemes. Public and private properties also bore the brunt of the calamity, resulting in massive damage, he said.

The Larji project, an essential state undertaking, was severely impacted by the floods.

CM Sukhu appealed for immediate financial aid from the Centre Government to facilitate relief and restoration operations to bring back normalcy and assist the affected communities.

In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the Chief Minister of prompt action.

The Centre Government has already dispatched a team to assess the extent of the damages caused by the floods in the state. Once the team submits its comprehensive report, the Prime Minister pledged that the government would release the necessary financial assistance.

Prime Minister Modi expressed solidarity with the state and its people during this challenging time, emphasizing the government's commitment to providing all possible support in the state's recovery efforts.

All eyes are now on the Centre Government to expedite the assessment process and provide the crucial financial aid needed to alleviate the suffering of the affected populace and initiate the process of rebuilding the state.
