Shimla: In a bid to promote eco-friendly tourism and adventure sports, Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, today flagged off the 11th Winter Expedition-2024 of Mountain Goat from Horizon, MC Parking Tutikandi in Shimla.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Pathania emphasized the Himachal government's commitment to boosting tourism in the state. He highlighted the potential of Himachal Pradesh to emerge as a top global tourist destination, particularly through the development of motor tracks in various districts.
The speaker underscored the state government's efforts to promote electric vehicles (EVs), expressing delight at the participation of EVs in the rally. He noted the government's initiative to replace existing vehicle fleets with electric ones, along with providing 50 percent grant amounts to youths for e-taxis.
While acknowledging the thrill and adventure associated with such rallies, Speaker Pathania urged participants to prioritize safety and preparedness, especially given the rally's route from Shimla to Lahaul Spiti in February. He extended his best wishes for the well-being of all participants and invited them to the next rally in Chamba.
MLA Lahaul-Spiti, Ravi Thakur, commended the use of EVs in the rally, aligning with the state government's focus on promoting green energy. He announced a donation of Rs 10 lakh to Mountain Goat and highlighted the eight-day rally's potential to boost adventure tourism in the state.
The event featured stunts by professional motorcyclists and traditional performances by cultural troupe artists, adding to the festive atmosphere. Chief guest Speaker Pathania visited various stalls and participated in a car racing game, engaging with attendees and sponsors.
More than 80 participants are involved in the rally, set to conclude in Lahaul on February 24, 0024. The event witnessed the presence of Mountain Goat founders Shashwat Gupta and Suraj Tayal, along with Sub Divisional Magistrate Shimla Urban Bhanu Gupta, DSP, and other officials.
