SHIMLA: IN response to the ongoing Climate Fast unto death by a Ladakhi innovator, Sonam Wangchuk in his 20th day without any response from the Central Government, various NGOs have rallied in his support, urging citizens across India to stand up for the Himalayas.
Inspired by the resilience of the activist and the pressing need to protect regions like Ladakh, Sikkim, Joshimath, and the entire Himalayan ecosystem, NGOs, led by Climate Front, have taken to social media to garner support.
Sonam looks shaken, languished due to his 20 days long hunger strike and accepted that he felt weak, tired and fatigued. But no response from the Central Government that has disturbed and hurted him, shaking his faith in democratic principles and values.
Despite mainstream media's silence on the matter, Climate Front emphasizes the urgency of the situation, stressing that the fight for climate justice extends beyond the Himalayas, encompassing issues like coal mining in Hasdeo Forest and anti-environmental legislation in parliament.
"We can only continue fighting the climate crisis with more hands on deck," says Climate Front. "Join us in safeguarding the fragile ecosystem of our country."
To bolster their efforts, Climate Front has released a Google form for interested activists to join their cause. The form includes questions about the volunteer's contact information, educational background, availability, and affiliations with other organizations.
"We promise to keep your information confidential," assures Climate Front.
Volunteers are encouraged to fill out the form, pledging their commitment to dedicating time and effort to the cause of climate justice in India.
