Shimla, June 7 — Pradesh Congress President and former MP Pratibha Singh has said that the BJP should not be overly pleased with the results of the Lok Sabha elections.
She stated that the public has entirely rejected BJP’s "400 plus" slogan. Despite Congress losing all four Lok Sabha seats in the state, Singh emphasized that the party’s victory in four out of six Assembly by-elections indicates that the people of the state stand firmly with Congress.
"Democracy values the people's mandate above all, and Congress fully respects that. Our state government has a solid majority and will complete its term with full confidence," said Singh.
Responding to former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur’s demand for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's resignation, Singh called it laughable. "When Congress decisively defeated the BJP 4-0 in the Mandi parliamentary by-election and three Assembly by-elections, why didn't Jairam Thakur resign then?" she asked.
She criticized Thakur’s call for resignation, stating that moral lessons sound hollow coming from the BJP, a party that lacks integrity. She asserted that the people of the state have rejected party-switching and money power.
Singh urged party workers not to be disheartened and to maintain their morale. "We need to start working now for victory in the upcoming three Assembly by-elections.
Our workers are the backbone of the party, and they must enthusiastically take the popular policies and public interest decisions of the state Congress government to the people," she said.
Pratibha Singh is heading to New Delhi today to attend the All India Congress Committee meeting on June 8, where she will also meet senior party leaders.
