PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh in Vidhan sabha

SHIMLA: PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh addressed the state assembly, focusing on the severe damage caused by heavy rains, cloudbursts, and related disasters across Himachal Pradesh.

He presented a detailed account of the destruction that occurred between 31st September 2024 and beyond, affecting roads, bridges, houses, crops, and both government and private infrastructure.

Singh highlighted that this is not just a state issue but a national and global phenomenon, urging for serious action from both the state and central governments.

He mentioned that the state has already undertaken significant relief and reconstruction efforts, including the rapid restoration of damaged roads and the construction of Bailey bridges within 14 days—a process that usually takes one to two months.

The Minister also pointed out the challenges posed by the vertical cutting of four-lane highways, which has led to severe erosion and damage, particularly in areas like Kullu and Mandi.

He stressed the need for proper realignment and the construction of more tunnels to minimize future disasters.

Additionally, Singh expressed disappointment over the lack of support from the opposition and the central government in securing the required resources for disaster management and infrastructure restoration.

He called for a bipartisan approach to address these critical issues.

In conclusion, Singh emphasized the need for sustainable development practices in the state, ensuring that future infrastructure projects are planned with minimal environmental impact.
