SHIMLA: After facing public outrage over the police constable recruitment and paper leakage scam, Himachal Pradesh police Sunday claimed that SIT took up the investigation in the right earnest and arrested 91 persons and made recoveries in this case so far.
Out of 91 arrested, 26 persons are in judicial custody, 21 persons are in police custody. SIT prevented vital evidence from being destroyed and prevented accused persons from absconding, claimed the police DGP.
The police spokesperson said the multiple police teams were formed for conducting scientific and evidence-based investigation in all districts of HP and outside the State.
The SIT, besides investigating the case diligently is getting documentation ready to hand over the case to CBI as and when they arrive to take over the investigation.
Out of 91 persons arrested as many as 57 were from Kangra, 19 from Solan, four from Hamirpur, three each from Mandi, Bilaspur and Chamba, one each from Una, Kullu.
Among the arrested included 63 candidates, who had appeared in the test. Three involved the paper leakage scam were father of Candidates.
The scale of paper leakage scam is understandable as the Special investigation team(SIT) has nabbed as many as 25 agents, middle-men and kingpins- 15 are from HP and 10 come from various states.
SIT has also made recoveries from the accused. It has recovered Rs.10.34 Lakh and Rs 6000 (Nepali Rupees) in cash from Agents.
The SIT has recovered five Cars, 137 Mobile Phones, 4 Laptops, 1 DVR, 10 Hard Disks, one Pan Drive, three Memory Cards, one Jio-Fi, Original certificates of candidates (Matric and Plus Two) from Agents and Institutes involved.
The SIT has also recovered one account Passbook , two Check Books, three PAN Cards, two Aadhar Cards, seven ATM Cards, one attendance register & one Rough Register, one Visitor Register, one Xerox copy of Visitor Register and 2 Xeroxed copy of Aadhar Cards, one Diary, photo copy of air tickets, IDs and Screen Shot of what’s app chat, one digital watch.
DGP said the state government has decided to handover this case to CBI. Till the process of handing over is completed, SIT will continue the investigation of this case, the police said.
