UK YOUTH in Dehradun at workshop on climate change

Youth of Uttarakhand Rally Against Climate Change in Innovative Workshop

Dehradun – Young minds from across Dehradun came together for a thought-provoking workshop, rallying against the looming climate crisis in Uttarakhand.

Organized by the Doon Library and Research Center and the Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation, the event saw enthusiastic participation from students of Doon University, Mahadevi Kanya Pathshala, Jigyasa University, Garhwal University, DAV College, Shri Guru Ram Rai College, and the Doon Library.

Anoop Nautiyal of SDC Foundation set the tone, emphasizing the workshop's significance as part of the "Uttarakhand Idea Exchange."

He highlighted that this initiative, set to unfold in three phases, aims to foster innovative solutions to Uttarakhand's climate woes.

"We’re not just talking; we’re planning to act. After this workshop, we'll continue with a panel discussion in September and a round table in October," Nautiyal announced.

The youth, divided into six groups, dived into intense brainstorming sessions, turning chart papers into canvases of creativity—sketches, poems, songs, and words flowed freely as they grappled with the state's climate challenges.

"It’s inspiring to see these young people channel their creativity into real-world solutions," said Chandrasekhar Tiwari, Program Associate of Doon Library and Research Center, who also lauded the youth’s innovative approaches.

Gautam Kumar of SDC Foundation brought attention to the landmark MK Ranjit Singh vs. Union of India case, underscoring its importance in India's environmental jurisprudence.

"The Supreme Court's recognition of our fundamental rights against climate change is a game-changer for our fight," he remarked.

Social thinker Biju Negi concluded the workshop by thanking the participants and encouraging them to continue their engagement with environmental issues.

Certificates were awarded, but the real reward was the sense of empowerment the youth carried with them as they left, ready to take on the climate challenge.
