Shimla, January 12:

In an unprecedented crackdown on drug trafficking, the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal Pradesh government on Monday dismissed 11 police personnel from service for their alleged involvement in chitta smuggling and cases under the NDPS Act.

The action has been taken under Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution, which allows dismissal without a departmental inquiry in exceptional circumstances.

The move is part of the state government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs and narcotics.

The government said this strict step sends a clear and strong message that there is no place in the police force for those who break the law instead of protecting it.

CM stressed that anyone found involved in drug trafficking, regardless of rank, will face the harshest action.

The dismissed personnel include:

Inspector Neeraj Kumar, posted in Indian Reserve Battalion, Bangarh

Constable Shubham Thakur, posted in Bilaspur district

Constable Kapil, posted in IRB Pandoh

Constable Shiv Kumar, posted in SDRF

Constable Lakshya Chauhan, posted in Shimla district police

Constable/Driver Vishal Thakur, posted in SV & ACB

Constable Gaurav Verma, posted in IRB Jangalberi

Constable/Driver Sandeep Rana, posted in IRB Sakoh

Constable Ankush Kumar, posted in SDRF

Constable Rajat Chandel, posted in State CID

Constable Rahul Verma, posted in Shimla district police

Sources said all the personnel were found involved in NDPS Act cases. The government has made it clear that drug smuggling will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

While the dismissed employees may approach the court for relief, the government’s action has sent a strong signal to the police force and others involved in the drug trade across Himachal .Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting on the drug menace and reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against chitta and narcotics.

CM Sukhu said there would be no leniency, even for those in uniform.

“The law protectors cannot become lawbreakers,” he said, adding that no one involved in drug trafficking will be spared, irrespective of rank or influence.

He called the fight against drugs a shared responsibility of society and asserted, “There will be no compromise on narcotics.”
