Another Expert Committee Formed to Probe Financial and Management Lapses in HPPCL
Shimla, October 12: The Himachal Pradesh government has constituted an expert committee to probe the findings of an inquiry report highlighting alleged financial and administrative irregularities in the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL).
According to a notification issued by the Department of MPP and Power, the three-member committee will be headed by B.L. Thakur, Managing Director, HPSLDC.
The other members include Rajeev Sood, Chartered Accountant and Independent Director, HPSEBL/HPPTCL, and Manish Mahajan, Additional Director (Energy) who is holding the charge of Director (Electrical), HPPCL, as the Member Secretary.
The committee has been tasked with examining the issues flagged in the inquiry report dated April 8, 2025, submitted by Onkar Chand Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Home).
The probe will cover alleged financial and other mismanagements in HPPCL, lapses in the Pekhubella Solar Power Project, the awarding of DPR work to a single agency, and matters related to the resignation of Desh Raj from HPSEBL prior to his appointment as Director (Electrical).
The panel will also recommend remedial measures to improve HPPCL’s functioning and ensure transparency in future operations. The committee has been directed to submit its report within one month to the Secretary (Power).
The notification was issued by Rakesh Kanwar, IAS, Secretary (Power) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
