New Delhi: A CBI special court has sentenced a Kendriya Vidyalaya principal to four years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh after holding him guilty in a bribery case.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation, the principal was convicted under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding and accepting illegal gratification.
The case stemmed from a complaint alleging that the accused had sought a bribe in return for extending official favour.
Following a detailed trial, the court found the prosecution evidence credible and established that the bribe was demanded and accepted.
The judge observed that corruption in public offices, especially in educational institutions, erodes public trust and must be dealt with sternly.
In addition to the prison term, the court directed the convict to pay a fine of ₹1 lakh, failing which he will have to undergo additional imprisonment. The accused was taken into custody after the pronouncement of the judgment.
The CBI said the verdict reaffirms its commitment to pursuing corruption cases to their logical conclusion and ensuring accountability in public service.
