Himachal Doctors’ Body Demands Probe Into Tissa Hospital Social Media Incident
Shimla October 17: The Himachal Medical Officers Association (HMOA), led by Dr. Rajesh Rana, today strongly condemned the online harassment of a doctor posted at the Civil Hospital, Tissa.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Rana said the incident, which involved unverified allegations circulating on social media, violated basic human rights and harmed the professional reputation of the doctor.
Dr. Rana clarified that the doctor had no direct interaction with the woman making the claims and suggested that the allegations might be a publicity stunt aimed at increasing her social media following.
He urged that the harassment on social media be immediately stopped until a fair and impartial investigation is completed.
The HMOA also demanded a thorough probe into a case where a specific individual threatened the doctor with physical harm, saying such intimidation poses a serious risk to a civilized society.
Dr. Rana highlighted the acute shortage of doctors across the state, including Tissa hospital, where only five out of 17 sanctioned doctors are currently working, forcing them to work 24-36 hours continuously.
“The overburdened medical staff faces extreme mental and physical stress. Social media harassment only worsens their morale and can lead to depression,” Dr. Rana said. He added that the HMOA would engage with the Chief Minister, Health Minister, and Health Secretary to ensure defined duty hours for doctors and requested the state adopt legal measures like other states to protect healthcare workers from online defamation.
Dr. Rana emphasized that the doctors’ association has joined the United Doctors Front (UDF) in addressing the Tissa hospital episode and will hold responsible any political figures or others attempting to malign medical professionals without proper investigation.
