CM at IGMC Stimulus 2025

SHIMLA. In a major boost to advanced healthcare. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday announced the establishment of bone marrow treatment infrastructure in five major medical colleges of Himachal Pradesh.

Each institution will receive Rs five crore to set up the facility. marking a significant step in strengthening specialised care in the hill State.

 

The announcement came during the annual function Stimulus 2025-26 of IGMC Shimla. where the CM presided as Chief Guest.

The five institutions selected for bone marrow infrastructure include IGMC Shimla. AIIMS Chamiyana. Tanda Medical College Kangra. LBS Medical College and Hospital Ner Chowk. and Dr Radhakrishnan Medical College Hamirpur.

 

Setting the tone for a massive healthcare upgrade. the CM said the State Government was committed to equipping all major hospitals with world-class medical technology.

 “We want patients in Himachal to get the best diagnostic and treatment services without having to travel outside the State.” he said.

 

The Chief Minister also announced an ‘Incentive Policy’ for doctors based on multiple performance parameters. and declared that stipends for PG resident doctors will be hiked in the upcoming Budget.

 First-year PG residents will get Rs 50,000. second-year Rs 60,000. and third-year Rs 65,000 per month.

 

At IGMC. he sanctioned Rs five crore for laparoscopic facilities and Rs six crore for the Anaesthesia Department. He directed authorities to fast-track the land transfer for a new student hostel and expedite shifting of the Gynaecology wing from KNH to IGMC.

 

Highlighting the government's push for modern healthcare. the CM said robotic surgeries have started for the first time in Himachal. with robotic machines already functional at Chamiyana Super Specialty Hospital and Tanda Medical College.

 He said the Government will invest over Rs 3,000 crore to upgrade medical infrastructure and replace decades-old equipment with technology comparable to AIIMS Delhi and PGI Chandigarh.

 

To strengthen medical education. seats in BSc Medical Laboratory. Radiology & Imaging. Anaesthesia and OT Technology have been increased from 10 to 50 at IGMC and from 18 to 50 at Tanda.

The government also rationalised resident doctors’ duty hours from 36-hour shifts to a maximum of 12 hours. and increased stipends for senior residents from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh. and from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh in super-specialty departments.

 

The CM said the Government has spent Rs 1207 crore in the last three years to upgrade infrastructure and equipment in medical colleges.

PG courses have already been started in Chamba. Hamirpur and Nerchowk. and Emergency Medicine departments have been set up in all medical colleges. Forty new specialist posts and 57 casualty medical officers have also been created.

 

The Super Specialty Hospital at Chamiyana has been made fully functional. while the Trauma Centre and New OPD Block have been opened at IGMC. The CM reiterated that the State aims to become self-reliant in healthcare and education.

During the event. the CM also announced Rs five lakh for the Central Students’ Union for organising the cultural programme. Students and doctors were honoured for their achievements. while Principal Dr Sita Thakur briefed the CM on IGMC’s requirements.

 

Mayor Surender Chauhan. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. SP Sanjeev Gandhi. Director Medical Education Dr Rakesh Sharma. Senior Medical Superintendent Dr Rahul Rao and other dignitaries were present.
