SHIMLA, JULY 19: Marking the beginning of a new Lionistic year, the Lions Club Shimla on Sunday elected its new leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding community service initiatives, with a major tree plantation campaign announced as the first flagship programme of the new session.

The Board of Directors-cum-General House Meeting was held at Utsav Hall, Hotel Holiday Home, Shimla, where the outgoing office bearers formally handed over charge to the newly elected team for the Lionistic year 2026–27.

The newly elected office bearers include President Lion O. P. Mehta, Secretary Lion Prof. Daleep Kumar Sharma and Treasurer Lion Prof. K. C. Sharma. The new team was felicitated by club members during the meeting.

The General House reviewed the club's activities during 2025–26 through an annual report, which highlighted a series of community welfare initiatives, including voluntary blood donation camps, eye check-up camps, tree plantation drives, "Food for Hunger" programmes for patients and attendants at hospitals in Shimla, and several donation and social service projects. The audited statement of accounts, presented by Lion Prof. C. L. Sankhyan, was unanimously approved by the members.

Area Leader Lion Man Mohan Verma commended the outgoing team led by President Lion Gopal Krishan Vaid for its dedicated service and successful execution of various humanitarian programmes. He expressed confidence that the new leadership would further strengthen the club's tradition of selfless service and community outreach.

Outgoing President Lion Gopal Krishan Vaid thanked the members for their support during his tenure and assured the incoming team of his continued cooperation in implementing future welfare projects.

In his inaugural address, newly elected President Lion O. P. Mehta thanked the members for their confidence and pledged to intensify the club's service activities in the coming year. He announced that a large-scale tree plantation drive would be organised next week as the first environmental initiative of the new session.

The meeting concluded with members renewing their commitment to the Lions Club motto, "We Serve," and resolving to work collectively for the welfare of the underprivileged and the community throughout 2026–27.
