IGMC Turns Into Safe Haven for Unauthorized Sample Collectors; FIR Filed Against Duo as Diagnostic Services Collapse in the hospital collapse.
Shimla, November 28— Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla has landed in yet another controversy after two unauthorized lab agents were found freely entering wards and collecting blood samples from patients.
It has exposed a massive failure in hospital security and health of the patients and a deeper nexus between private labs and sections of the hospital system, resented the patient.
The racket came to light when a woman posing as a laboratory technician was caught collecting samples without any ID card or authorization.
When questioned, she claimed she had “previously worked with a molecular diagnostic lab” and was “allowed” to collect samples.
She also revealed the involvement of another man identified as Shekhar.
IGMC Medical Superintendent confirmed filing a police complaint, saying:
“We have lodged a formal complaint with Police Chowki, Lakkar Bazar against both individuals for unauthorized sample collection inside IGMC. The matter is serious and involves misuse of hospital facilities.”
Patients Forced to Private Labs as IGMC Test service Remain Unavailable
This incident has exposed the deeper mess inside IGMC’s diagnostic services. Many routine and essential tests remain unavailable despite the hospital outsourcing them to a private lab. The private labs are changed every time new government takes over.
Patients are being forced to go outside the hospital and pay heavy charges for tests that should be available in-house.
Patients allege that some staff members routinely direct them to private labs, citing excuses such as machines not working or tests being unavailable.
This has intensified suspicion of a commission-based arrangement between private labs and insiders within IGMC.
Corruption Angle Hard to Ignore
The FIR has made it clear that IGMC’s diagnostic system is not just mismanaged—it may have been compromised. Unauthorized sample collectors moving freely inside wards and the persistent failure of in-house testing point to:
Deliberate sabotage of hospital diagnostic services
Commission-driven referrals to private labs
Lapses in security and administrative oversight
A possible nexus between outsourced labs and hospital insiders
