CM Funeral procession by Sangharsh Samiti in Sanjauli

Shimla, November 29:

The Sanjauli Masjid row intensified  after the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti refused to attend the meeting called by the district administration and instead took out a symbolic “funeral procession,” raising sharp slogans against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The move marked a direct show of defiance, signalling that the Committee is in no mood for dialogue unless the government acts on the demolition order issued earlier by the Municipal Commissioner.

The Samiti has been on a continuous sit-in dharna in Sanjauli for days, demanding the razing of what it calls an “illegal and unauthorized” structure. The situation on the ground remains tense, with police heavily deployed and the area virtually garrisoned. Namaz has also been restricted due to the fear of escalation.

Meanwhile, the dispute has taken a significant legal turn. The Waqf Board has approached the High Court challenging the demolition order, effectively freezing any immediate administrative action.

This has placed the entire matter in judicial suspense, giving the authorities a reason to hold off on implementing the Commissioner’s directive.

The political atmosphere around the issue has thickened as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, RSS, and BJP have thrown their weight behind the Sangharsh Samiti, turning the local dispute into a broader ideological flashpoint.

With a minority institution involved and the case now sub judice, the Sukhu government is unlikely to take decisive action until a clear judicial directive comes, either from the High Court or eventually the Supreme Court—adding to the uncertainty and prolonging the standoff.
