Shimla: For table tennis freaks, Shimla is all set to become a fresh port of call as South Asia’s finest paddlers converge on the hill town from April 8 to 11.
The South Asian Table Tennis Championship will be hosted at the Indira Gandhi State Sports Complex, marking a historic first—this is the first time Himachal Pradesh is hosting an international-level table tennis tournament.
Around 100 players from five countries, including India, Nepal, Maldives, and Bangladesh, will battle it out across team, singles, and doubles events.
The championship is not just about regional bragging rights—it’s also a gateway to the prestigious Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship.
Qualification stakes are high:
Top 2 teams in the team event, top 4 players in singles, and top 2 pairs in doubles will qualify for the Asian meet scheduled from June 21 to 27 in Muscat.
Himachal Pradesh Table Tennis Association General Secretary Adish Rana termed it a proud moment, saying the event will give local youngsters a rare chance to witness top South Asian talent up close.
As the erstwhile summer capital of British Raj gears up, the hills are set to echo with high-speed rallies—putting Shimla firmly on the global table tennis map.
