New Delhi, September 26 – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has tightened the noose in the high-profile murder of BJP leader Ratan Dubey by filing a second supplementary chargesheet against a father–son duo, allegedly active operatives of the banned CPI (Maoist).
Those named in the fresh chargesheet are Narayan Prasad Nag and his son Shivanand Nag. According to the NIA, both were deeply embedded in Maoist networks and had long-standing rivalry—political, personal, and business—with Dubey. The agency has booked them under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Dubey was hacked to death with hand axes in November 2023 at the weekly market in Koushalnar village, Narayanpur district, while campaigning for the state assembly elections.
The brutal daylight killing, the NIA says, was not just a personal vendetta but a pre-planned act of terror aimed at spreading fear and derailing the democratic process.
Investigators have traced the conspiracy to the Bayanar and Barsoor Area Committees of the CPI (Maoist), operating under the East Bastar Division. Several overground workers (OGWs) were also roped in to execute the plan. The case was formally handed to the NIA in February 2024.
This isn’t the first breakthrough. Earlier, the agency had filed chargesheets against Maoist cadre Dhansingh alias Sukhdev Korram, and later against Sainuram Korram and Laluram Korram in December 2024. The latest chargesheet deepens the Maoist web around the murder, showing how family units too are actively involved in the insurgent ecosystem.
Calling the killing a “politically motivated crime with terror links,” the NIA said its probe is still on and more conspirators are likely to be nailed. The case is registered as RC-08/2024/NIA/RPR.
