SHIMLA/NEW DELHI: The long wait finally ended on Wednesday afternoon as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 12 results, triggering scenes of jubilation, nervous excitement and emotional celebrations across Shimla.
From school campuses to cyber cafés and mobile screens in homes tucked along the hills, students refreshed the CBSE website repeatedly with trembling fingers as parents stood anxiously beside them.
The moment the result link opened, cheers erupted in many households while some students broke into tears of joy after scoring above expectations.
The biggest celebrations were witnessed in leading DAV school New Shimla where students dominated the merit race with several scoring a perfect 100 out of 100 in English and science subjects, especially in the non-medical stream.
Teachers were seen hugging students while parents distributed sweets outside school gates.
Many students said the tension before the result was unbearable.
“I could barely sleep last night,” said a DAV student who scored above 95 percent in the non-medical stream. “The moment I saw my marks, I screamed and hugged my mother.”
Parents too appeared visibly relieved after months of pressure, coaching classes and late-night study sessions.
Outside schools, students clicked selfies with friends, waved victory signs and posed with boxes of sweets as WhatsApp groups exploded with congratulatory messages.
Nationally too, the CBSE Class 12 result reflected strong performances despite a slight dip in the overall pass percentage this year.
According to CBSE data, 17,80,365 students registered for the examination, 17,68,968 appeared and 15,07,109 students passed, taking the overall success rate to 85.20 percent.
More than 94,000 students scored above 90 percent while over 17,000 students crossed the 95 percent mark, underlining the intense academic competition among students nationwide. Girls once again outperformed boys in the examination.
The CBSE board examinations were conducted between February and April across 7,573 centres involving nearly 20,000 schools.
Trivandrum emerged as the best-performing region in the country with a pass percentage of 95.62 percent followed by Chennai and Bengaluru.
Back in Shimla, however, numbers took a backseat as emotions ruled the day.
For students, it was the end of months of anxiety. For parents, it was relief. And for schools, it turned into a proud moment as the hill town celebrated another year of academic glory.
