Sending out a clear warning to drug peddlers and smugglers, the Shimla district police intensified their anti-narcotics offensive and arrested three accused in separate operations across Chopal, Jubbal and Theog during the last 24 hours, recovering charas and chitta meant to destroy young lives.
Under the ongoing special anti-drug drive, police teams carried out aggressive patrolling and intelligence-led checks, leading to significant seizures.
In Chopal, a police team led by SHO Ambi Lal intercepted a suspicious individual during early morning patrolling in the Jhiknipul–Bamta belt. The accused, Chandan Budha (50), a Nepal national presently residing in Pujarli village, was found carrying 1.811 kg of charas. A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act has been registered and the accused arrested.
In Jubbal, police arrested Naveen Lata, a resident of Bauli village, after recovering 13.46 grams of chitta, a drug that has devastated families across the hill state. A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigations are underway.
In another blow to the drug network, the Theog police arrested Prithvi Raj of Dewari village, Chirgaon, with 11.620 grams of chitta.
A case has been registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, and police have launched a probe to unearth both backward and forward linkages of the drug racket.
Police officials said the district police are determined to wipe out the drug menace from Shimla, stressing that intensified patrolling, surveillance and intelligence gathering will continue round-the-clock.
“Those poisoning society for profit will not be spared,” officials asserted, adding that the drive aims to protect the youth from falling prey to narcotics.
The Shimla police reiterated that the crackdown on chitta and drug smuggling will continue relentlessly, with zero tolerance for traffickers operating in the state.
