Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has thanked the Union Government for giving approval for the Renuka ji Dam Project conceived as a PMKSY storage project on Giri river, a tributary of river Yamuna, in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister said the DPR of the Project was accepted by TAC in 2015 for total price of Rs. 4596.76 crore, however due to non-signing of Interstate Agreement between beneficiary states, project could not be taken forward.

Jai Ram Thakur said the Centre government pursued the Interstate Agreement vigorously  amongst six beneficiary states -. Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and signed the agreement on 9th January, 2019.

He said that after signing of such agreement the DPR has once again been accepted by the Ministry of Jal Shakti on 9th December, 2019 for total price of Rs. 6946.99 crore.

Chief Minister said that the Project envisages construction of a 148 meter high rockfill dam, which would store the monsoon discharges which otherwise go unused, leading to formation of a 24 km long reservoir.

He said that live storage of dam would be 498 million cubic meters which would be used for supplying drinking water @ 23 cubic meters per second to National Capital Territory of Delhi.

It will also generate 200 million units of energy in a surface power house with 40 MW installed capacity which would be utilized by the state Government, he added.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the construction of project was expected to start by December, 2022 and would be completed in six years. He said that CAT plan works with total outlay of Rs. 160.34 crore would be done to improve the health of catchment.  After commissioning one percent of annual revenue would be distributed in affected area every year, he added.
