SHIMLA: The Central team from New Delhi today conducted an on-ground assessment of the destruction caused by recent heavy rains in the region.
Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has estimated a loss of over Rs 8000 Crore in the state and has sought the Economic package from the Centre to rebuild its lost infrastructure and the properties of the affected families hit by the downpour and the flash floods in the state.
To get a field assessment, the Central team visited downpour-hit areas of Rajhana, where two people were killed, Panthaghati, and Krishna Nagar.
In Rajhana, the team investigated the aftermath of a tragic landslide that resulted in the loss of two lives, with one person sustaining serious injuries after debris fell on their house. The gravity of the situation was evident as they surveyed the site.
The central team also inspected the damage at Tenzin Hospital and Krishna Nagar in Pantaghati. The hospital had experienced significant harm due to the relentless downpour, impacting the medical services in the area.
During these evaluations, Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Aditya Negi, provided the central team with detailed information about the extent of the disaster's impact in parts of Shimla.
Several other officials, including Additional District Magistrate Protocol Jyoti Rana, Sub Divisional Magistrate Shimla Urban Bhanu Gupta, Sub Divisional Magistrate Shimla Rural Nishant Kumar, Tehsildar, and other officers were also present during the assessment.
The central team is scheduled to visit the Kotkhai and Rohru areas on July 20, 2023.
They will survey the damage to the national highway and assess the devastation caused in the gardens of these districts, seeking to gauge the full extent of the disaster in the region.
