Vikramaditya Singh paying tributes to late Virbhadra Singh on his Jayanti in Shimla

SHIMLA: People of Himachal Pradesh today remembered the rich legacy of late Virbhadra Singh, a towering titan in Himachal Pradesh politics, who served as the state's Chief Minister six times on his Jayanti here today 

Prayer meeting was led here today by his wife Pratibha Singh, his daughter  Abhilasha Kumari, the former Chief Justice, first woman CJ, of Manipur High Court, his son son PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh Shimla MLA Harish Janartha, Rohru MLA Mohan Brakta, Rampur MLA Nand Lal,Deputy mayor Uma Kaushal  and other friends and family members and relatives and Congress party leaders.

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid tributes to Virbhadra Singh in Dehra where he was leading a campaign in favour of his wife Kamlesh Thakur.

Born on June 23, 1934, in Sarahan, Bushahr, Virbhadra Singh hailed from the royal family of Bushahr and was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress.

His political career spanned over five decades, during which he played a pivotal role in the modernization and development of Himachal Pradesh. He is foundly remember by his admirers as" Raja Sahib".

Virbhadra Singh literally was  a "king of people's hearts", a legacy that no leader matched in the state. 

Virbhadra Singh's leadership transformed the state through infrastructure development, including roads, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. He was also a strong advocate for preserving and promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage.

His tenure saw a blend of traditional values with modern aspirations, setting the foundation for a progressive Himachal Pradesh.

His son, Vikramaditya Singh,  remarked, "My father envisioned a prosperous and culturally vibrant Himachal. His tireless efforts laid the groundwork for the state's progress. 

To honor his legacy, I propose dedicating a three-yard plot on The Ridge in Shimla for a statue that will inspire future generations."

Virbhadra Singh's contributions to social welfare, rural development, and education continue to inspire leaders and citizens alike. His legacy is celebrated across the state, and his vision continues to guide its development trajectory.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid heartfelt tributes to the late Virbhadra Singh  praising his unparalleled contribution to Himachal Pradesh. 

Virbhadra Singh was more than a leader; he was a visionary who saw potential where others saw challenges. His efforts in modernizing Himachal Pradesh are evident in every aspect of our daily lives.

"From roads to schools, his work has left an indelible mark on our state. His dedication to social welfare and cultural enrichment remains a guiding light for us, said his admirers..

Reflecting on Singh's leadership, CM Sukhu noted, "His ability to blend tradition with progress is something we strive to emulate.

He understood the heartbeat of Himachal Pradesh and worked tirelessly to uplift it."

In line with preserving his legacy, Singh's son, Vikramaditya Singh, had advocated for a special commemoration.

"I propose we allocate a three-yard plot on The Ridge to erect a statue in his honor," Vikramaditya Singh suggested, underscoring the need to keep his father’s memory alive in the heart of Shimla.

Citizens and officials gathered to celebrate Singh’s contributions, sharing memories and stories of his dedication to the state.

As tributes poured in, it was clear that Virbhadra Singh's spirit continues to inspire the people of Himachal Pradesh, guiding them toward a brighter future.

Today, we remember not just a leader, but a guiding force whose vision for a modern and vibrant Himachal still resonates," Singh said. "His legacy lives on in the progress we see and the values we uphold".
