Shimla: As many as 1580 inmates of 11 different jails across the state on World Mental Health Day got conselling and mental health inputs from doctors under the guidance of Shri Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, who also Executive Chairperson, HP State Legal Services Authority, who oversaw these Mental Health Camps in State Jails.
The camps aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and improve the well-being of incarcerated individuals. This year's theme is "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right."
H.P. State Legal Services Authority organized a camp at Model Central Jail, Kanda, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Shimla, and the Health Department.
Ms. Vijay Lakshmi, Additional Secretary, HPSLSA, Shri Vikas Gupta, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Shimla, and Chief Medical Officer, Deen Dayal Upadhay Hospital Shimla, along with a team of 9 Doctors and Prison Department Officers, were present.
As many as 11 camps were held in 11 jails, reaching 1580 inmates.
The camps included counseling and therapy sessions led by Mental Health Professionals, recreational activities, and raising awareness about inmates' legal and human rights.
The initiative aims to address the mental health needs of those in custody, recognizing the significant impact of incarceration on mental health.
