Shimla: The   three-day long  tourism trade fair in Mumbai has rung in a new hope for tourism industry of Himachal Pradesh ahead of summer season, with travel agents and operators showing keen interest in the Himachal pavilion.

This surge in interest has reignited hopes among tourism stakeholders after the state faced challenges in July and August 2023.

President of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism and Hoteliers Stakeholders Association, M K Seth, expressed optimism, citing the successful engagement with travel agents at the fair.

He highlighted the pivotal role played by the recent rationalization of taxes on tourist buses coming from other states by the HP government, which has encouraged travel agents to consider bringing groups to Himachal.

**Positive Outlook for Summer Tourist Season**

The tourism trade fair serves as a   platform for hoteliers to directly engage with travel agents from across India.

Over 100 hotels and resorts from Himachal Pradesh participated, seizing the opportunity to showcase their properties and attract bookings for the upcoming summer tourist season.

Seth emphasized the significance of group tourism in boosting hotel occupancy, particularly during the summer season when tourists from Maharashtra and Gujarat flock to Himachal Pradesh.

The recent easing of taxation on tourist buses has rekindled interest among travel agents from these states, promising increased footfall in the coming months.

Call for Government Support

Looking ahead, stakeholders underscored the need for government support to further bolster Himachal Pradesh's tourism industry.

They urged for an increase in the publicity budget for 2024-2025, with a focus on targeted destination-wise promotion through electronic media and participation in various tourism trade fairs.

To enhance participation, stakeholders suggested subsidizing stall rates for private hoteliers and emphasized the importance of competing effectively with other tourism states like Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir.

Additionally, they urged the government to showcase Himachal Pradesh prominently by booking larger pavilions at tourism events and targeting potential tourists in South India through participation in trade fairs in Chennai and Bangalore.

The renewed optimism at the Mumbai tourism trade fair signals a positive trajectory for Himachal Pradesh's tourism industry, offering hope for a vibrant and successful summer tourist season ahead.
