Patients Gasp for Life as MRI Machine Remains Out of Order at IGMC Shimla. The fate of critically patients hang in balance.

Shimla: Critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla are facing a grim battle for survival as the hospital's MRI machine has been out of order since last Friday.

The situation has exposed the shocking apathy of the IGMC administration, which seems unperturbed despite the life-threatening consequences of this failure.

Patients in the ICU, particularly those who have suffered strokes, trauma, or other critical illnesses, are being left in a precarious state due to the inability to conduct essential MRI scans.

Without this vital diagnostic tool, doctors are struggling to determine the appropriate treatment for these critically sick individuals, leaving them on ventilator support without clear guidance on how to proceed.

As the top state-level referral hospital, IGMC is expected to provide advanced diagnostic services such as MRI and CT scans.

However, the lack of functioning equipment has forced many patients to seek these critical tests at private labs, costing them dearly and adding to their already heavy burden.

What's particularly disheartening is the complete lack of urgency from the hospital administration to rectify the situation.

Patients and their attendants are left running from pillar to post, desperately seeking the diagnostics needed to save lives, while the MRI machine remains out of service with no clear timeline for repair.

The state government’s appointment of a health minister seems to have done little to improve the dire situation at IGMC.

The hospital continues to subject patients to a "hit and  trial" style of treatment, where essential diagnostics like MRI scans, crucial for trauma and critically ill patients, are unavailable, putting lives at grave risk.

Patients express deep resentment and frustration, not knowing when or if the MRI machine will be repaired.

Until then, those admitted to the ICU and trauma center remain in a state of uncertainty, their conditions worsening with each passing day.

Even cleanliness in hospital is in badcshap as hospital administration

The negligence at IGMC is costing lives, and the silence from the authorities is deafening.
