SHIMLA: During the enforcement of the model code of conduct ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and bye-elections in Himachal Pradesh, authorities have cracked down on illicit activities, seizing items totaling Rs. 7.23 crore.
According to a spokesperson from the State Election Department in Shimla, the combined efforts of police, excise, and other agencies have resulted in significant seizures. Among the confiscated items are cash, drugs, liquor, and jewelry.
The police department alone has seized cash amounting to Rs. 21,65,970, along with 65 grams of gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs. 3.35 lakh.
Additionally, the excise department has intercepted a staggering 356,195 liters of illicit liquor, valued at Rs. 5.12 crores.
Furthermore, various agencies have seized substantial quantities of narcotics.
These include 27 kilograms of Charas worth Rs. 53.80 lakhs, 1.40 kilograms of heroin valued at Rs. 97.2 lakhs, and approximately 33.35 kilograms of Poppy Husk amounting to Rs. 66 thousand.
These efforts signify a concerted push to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and curb illegal activities during the election period in the state.
