SHIMLA: Ld. Special Judge POCSO/Rape, Shimla, Amit Mandyal has pronounced the accused, Subodh Kumar, guilty in the high-profile rape and POCSO case.
The 29-year-old accused, hailing from Village Harpur Tegrahi, Bihar, has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 25 years, along with a fine of Rs. 25,000 under u/s 376(3) and u/s 452 of IPC.
The horrific incident dates back to July 2019 when the victim, lying alone at her residence due to a leg injury, was violated by the neighbor, Subodh Kumar.
The rape resulted in her pregnancy, and she eventually gave birth to a child.
The accused allegedly threatened the victim with grave consequences if she dared to disclose the heinous act.
The trial, spearheaded by the prosecution represented by Sangeeta Justa, Special Public Prosecutor Shimla, involved the examination of 23 witnesses.
After careful consideration of the evidence, the Ld. Special Judge delivered the verdict, sentencing the perpetrator to imprisonment for his despicable actions.
In addition to the lengthy imprisonment, the court has recommended a compensation of 3 Lakh rupees to be awarded to the victim and her child.
