This decision, coming in the wake of the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is seen as a crucial step towards safeguarding healthcare workers who risk their lives daily for others.
However, the UDFA has voiced concerns over the lack of youth representation in the NTF.
Young doctors, including interns, residents, and junior doctors, often face the harshest conditions and are more vulnerable to violence and exploitation.
The association believes that including these younger voices in the Task Force would make its efforts more effective, ensuring that those on the frontlines are heard and their experiences considered.
"While we appreciate the Supreme Court's proactive stance, it's essential that the voices of young medical professionals, who are the backbone of our healthcare system, are included in the National Task Force," said UDFA President Dr. Lakshya Mittal.
"Their insights and experiences are crucial to crafting policies that truly protect and empower those at the forefront, Dr Mittal said.
Despite this concern, the UDFA remains committed to advocating for the rights and safety of all medical professionals.
They have called on the Supreme Court and relevant authorities to consider the inclusion of youth representatives in the NTF to make its work comprehensive and inclusive.
In the meantime, the UDFA confirmed that the ongoing nationwide strike will continue, pressing for key demands such as enhanced representation within the NTF, swift implementation of safety measures as outlined by the Supreme Court, and a thorough investigation into the RG Kar Medical College incident.
The UDFA said that the strike underscores their dedication to these causes, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of medical professionals is a matter of national importance.
They have urged all stakeholders to collaborate and take concrete steps to address these critical issues, stating that the strike will persist until meaningful progress is achieved.
