India to Shine with a Necklace of Industrial Cities, says PM.
NEW DELHI/SHIMLA: In a major push to India’s industrial future, the Central Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, greenlit 12 new projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) today.
With a hefty investment of Rs. 28,602 crore, these projects are set to reshape India's industrial landscape, giving a big boost to economic growth and global competitiveness.
A Spread Across 10 States
These new industrial nodes, strategically located across 10 states, include:
- Khurpia in Uttarakhand
- Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab
- Dighi in Maharashtra
- Palakkad in Kerala
- Agra and Prayagrajin Uttar Pradesh
- Gaya in Bihar
- Zaheerabad in Telangana
- Orvakaland and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh
- Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan
Each city is being designed as a greenfield smart city, aligning with global standards and built on ‘plug-n-play’ and ‘walk-to-work’ concepts.
Driving Viksit Bharat Vision
This initiative is more than just infrastructure—it's about positioning India as a powerhouse in Global Value Chains (GVC).
With ready-to-allot land parcels, the government is making it easier for both domestic and international investors to set up shop, pushing forward the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'—a developed and self-reliant India.
Job Creation and Economic Boost
The NICDP is expected to create a 1 million direct jobs and up to 3 million indirect jobs, fueling regional development and providing livelihood opportunities.
These industrial hubs aim to transform their regions into thriving economic zones.
Sustainability at the Core
These projects aren't just about growth—they’re designed with sustainability in mind, said officials.
Green technologies and ICT-enabled utilities will ensure that these cities minimize environmental impact while driving economic activity.
With this approval, India is set to wear a grand necklace of industrial smart cities, driving its journey towards becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse.
The future looks bright as these projects lay down the path for India’s industrial and economic transformation.
But only time will tell their actual growth story after these smart industrial smart cities take off.
