Sacred Kullu Dussehra, But Stench of Corruption Lingers, Kullu MLA yet to clear the air.
Kullu, Oct 2: The international Dussehra of Kullu — the pride of Devbhumi, a festival that symbolizes centuries of faith and tradition — is once again clouded by allegations of corruption.
According to the rulebook, the open bidders of Tambola and Rehri Fahdi stalls must deposit 50 percent of the amount within 24 hours of the auction.
But the reality bites: even days after bids were finalized, the money hasn’t been deposited.
What should have been a simple, transparent process now reeks of favoritism and chaos.
Locals are asking straight questions: Why is the government bending rules? Who are these friends being shielded in the name of Dussehra?
Former minister and ex-MLA Govind Singh Thakur minced no words, saying, “Turning a sacred festival into a playground for corruption is nothing short of betrayal of people’s emotions.
Dussehra is a matter of faith for the valley, not a cash counter for those in power. The government must answer why laws and transparency are being openly mocked.”
Meanwhile, the sitting Kullu MLA and President of the Kullu Dussehra Committee Sundar Singh Thakur has yet to respond to these allegations, adding to public anger and suspicion.
For the people of Kullu, Dussehra isn’t just another mela. It’s a spiritual gathering of gods, a heritage recognized globally.
But when rulebooks are torn apart in the name of profit, the divine aura of the festival is sullied.
