Shimla: With the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) strike continuing, the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) administration swung into action on Friday, issuing a detailed set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure uninterrupted essential medical services and academic activities at the premier hospital.

According to the SOPs, emergency services at IGMC will continue to function as usual without any disruption. Junior residents, senior residents and faculty members assigned emergency duties have been directed to remain available round the clock.

The administration has instructed all consultants of clinical departments to prioritise morning ward rounds. Consultants assigned OPD duties will attend outpatient services only after completing ward rounds.

Routine elective surgeries have been suspended due to the absence of junior and senior resident staff. However, emergency surgical procedures will continue as per existing emergency protocols.

Radiological services, including ultrasound, CT scan and MRI, will be provided on priority for indoor and emergency patients. Investigations for OPD patients will be conducted to the extent possible, subject to availability of resources.

Laboratory services have been kept fully functional, with departments of pathology, biochemistry and microbiology directed to process all samples as received.

The SOPs further clarify that undergraduate teaching and examinations will continue as per the existing schedule, with no change in academic activities.

The orders were issued by the Principal, IGMC, and circulated to the Director of Medical Education and Research, additional director IGMC, medical superintendent IGH and all heads of departments for strict compliance.
