SHIMLA:
Health services at Indira Gandhi Medical Hospital (IGMC) were thrown out of gear on Saturday after resident doctors of Indira Gandhi Medical College went on strike, protesting the suspension of Dr. Naroor Daukh.
The strike was called after Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu could not accept the demand raised by doctors for revoking the suspension order. As a result, routine medical services remained affected, causing inconvenience to patients.
Resident doctors gathered in block premises and raised slogans demanding justice for Dr. Narula and security in the IGMC. The protesting doctors alleged that the action taken against him was unjust and arbitrary.
During the protest, the doctors also demanded the action against Naresh masta threatening Dr Narula.
The IGMC administration has invoked standard operating procedure (SOP) under which consultants were directed to manage OPD and emergency services in the absence of resident doctors.
The agitators maintained that their strike would continue until the suspension order is revoked and their demands are addressed.
