Shimla: People breathe relief as rain eases, lighter showers ahead in Himachal
After three days of relentless downpour, Himachal Pradesh finally got some respite on Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the intensity of rain is likely to be lighter in the coming days, giving much-needed time for restoration work across the state battered by landslides, floods, and road blockades.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, several parts of the state still recorded moderate showers in the past 24 hours. Kasauli (67 mm), Jubberhatti (59 mm), Shimla (47 mm), Solan (44.4 mm), Manali (44 mm), Kufri (43.6 mm), and Narkanda (42 mm) remained among the wettest pockets.
Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest at 6.8°C, while Dhaulakuan in Sirmaur was the hottest at 32.6°C. Day temperatures across most districts stayed well below normal, with Bhuntar, Mandi, and Manali dipping nearly 8–12°C below average.
District-wise forecast (next 24 hrs):
Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur: Light to moderate rain.
Kullu, Mandi, Kangra: Chances of moderate showers, risk of fresh landslides.
Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti: Light rain, cloudy and cool weather.
Una, Hamirpur, Dharamshala, Palampur: Scattered rain, humid conditions.
Officials said the easing rain will help in speeding up road restoration and relief operations, especially in areas where connectivity was hit badly.
