SHIMLA: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a meeting to assess the ongoing disaster situation in the state caused by a 157 percent surge in rainfall over the past four days.

The excessive rain has inflicted widespread damage, prompting swift action from the state government for restoration.

With 400 out of 1220 blocked roads already reopened, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need to restore electricity and water schemes that have been disrupted.

In Shimla's urban areas, over 500 uprooted trees have become a concern for residents. To manage this, the Forest Department was directed to promptly clear fallen trees with adequate manpower.

To prevent future issues, the Chief Minister stressed the reinforcement and restoration of drainage systems in Shimla.

A comprehensive project report will be developed, and a high-powered committee from the Public Works Department will oversee drainage inspections.

Waste management was also highlighted, with a focus on proper disposal in urban areas. The Chief Minister directed the preparation of plans for holistic structural engineering initiatives in future construction projects.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Bharat Khera, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary Home Dr. Abhishek Jain, Director SDMA DC Rana, ADGP Satwant Atwal, and other senior officers.
