Shimla: After protest from the  members of SAMDCOT, the state government has finally rolled out a detailed winter vacation schedule for faculty members and senior residents of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) for the 2024-25 academic year.

State Association of Medical and Dental College Doctors (SAMDCOT) had recently convened a heated meeting at IGMC, where doctors expressed their frustration over the health secretary's alleged casual approach and the government's delayed response to their demands.

Dr. Balbir  Verma, President of SAMDCOT, shared the details of the vacation schedule with HimbuMail  after the doctors flagged their concerns seriously.

The government has issued Vacation Schedule:

Faculty Members:

  • 1st Batch: December 26, 2024, to January 29, 2025
  • 2nd Batch: January 31, 2025, to March 6, 2025
  • Handover Day: January 30, 2025

Senior Residents:

  • 1st Batch: December 26, 2024, to January 21, 2025
  • 2nd Batch: January 23, 2025, to February 18, 2025
  • Handover Day: January 22, 2025

Department-wise Assignments:

The office order includes detailed departmental plans, with staff members split into two batches. The main departments such as Anaesthesia, Orthopedics, Dermatology, and OBG have outlined their respective rotations.

Dr. Kushla Pathania from the Department of OBG will retire on December 31, 2024. Adjustments have been made to accommodate her departure while maintaining uninterrupted medical services.

SAMDCOT’s Stance:

“Doctors have been overworked for far too long due to the government’s indifferent attitude,” said members of  SAMDCOT.

Dr Verma emphasized that the vacation plan, though belated, is a much-needed step to ensure the well-being of medical professionals.

The association warned of further agitation if the government continues its “lackadaisical” approach to addressing issues faced by healthcare workers.

The new schedule, meticulously planned to avoid service disruptions, marks a small but significant victory for SAMDCOT in their ongoing battle for better working conditions.
