Breaking fresh grounds HP Police Deploys Drones for Traffic Management in Himachal.. If all goes as planned drones are set to become eyes and ears of traffic police in Himachal..
SHIMLA: In a new move to manage traffic better in Himachal Pradesh, the Traffic, Tourist, and Railway Unit has turned to drones.
Acting on the orders from the Director General of Police, the unit surveyed road traffic accidents in Shimla and Kinnaur districts, with a particular focus on remote areas.
Additional SP Narveer Singh Rathore from Shimla took the lead in this initiative.
He visited Rampur in Shimla and the Sangla-Chitkul area in Kinnaur to get to the bottom of what’s causing accidents there.
After talking to local taxi drivers, heavy vehicle drivers, and private vehicle owners, the survey pinpointed two major issues: tourists unfamiliar with hilly driving conditions and high rates of alcohol consumption among drivers.
Based on these findings, the team issued warnings to local authorities and advised them on how to tackle these problems.
The effort didn't stop there. They also surveyed the Kullu district, zeroing in on the traffic-clogged Manali-Rohtang and Atal Tunnel areas.
Inspector Sandeep, the SHO of the Government Railway Police Station in Kangra, used a drone to capture footage of traffic congestion.
The data gathered from the drone’s high-resolution camera and advanced sensors provided a clear view of traffic flow and problem spots.
This bird’s-eye view is helping the police to make better decisions about managing traffic.
“Drones become our eyes in the sky, giving us real-time data on traffic flow, bottlenecks, and potential hazards,” said Rathore.
“This technology helps us make informed decisions to keep the traffic moving smoothly.”
With these steps, the HP Police hopes to improve traffic conditions and reduce accidents in these hilly areas.
