Shimla : The Bhuntar Airport has been granted forest clearance, marking a pivotal step towards its expansion and subsequent ability to accommodate larger aircraft.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made the announcement today, emphasizing the positive impact this expansion will have on both tourism and local accessibility.
With the widening of the airport's infrastructure, larger aircraft will now be able to land, a move expected to attract more tourists and better serve the needs of the local population, stated Chief Minister Sukhu.
Additionally, this expansion ensures compliance with the safety standards mandated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), further bolstering safety measures for travelers.
Bhuntar Airport holds significant importance in driving tourism activities in Kullu and Lahaul, drawing a considerable number of tourists keen to explore the region's natural beauty, cultural richness, and religious sites.
Notably, direct flights connecting Amritsar to Kullu are already operational, and the airport's expansion is poised to amplify the influx of both domestic and international travelers.
Highlighting the vital role of tourism in the state's economy, Chief Minister Sukhu underscored the government's commitment to promoting tourism.
A substantial allocation of rupees three thousand crore has been earmarked for the tourism sector, reflecting the administration's dedication to enhancing infrastructure and providing memorable experiences for tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh.
"We have set a target to attract over five crore tourists every year in the state, and efforts have been underway since the formation of the new government to achieve this goal,", he added.
