SHIMLA: The HP State government has issued a notification appointing Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha as the caretaker Director General of Police (DGP) for the duration of DGP Sanjay Kundu's Leave Travel Concession (LTC).
According to the notification, DGP Sanjay Kundu is set to proceed on LTC for 17 days starting from March 9.
According to sources DGP was sent on LTC following an "intelligence failure" on the revolt of the Six Congress MLAs that led to the defeat of the Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Then the subsequent resignation by PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh and the upheaval in the Congress Government that took CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu off guard.
The notification, sanctioned by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, grants DGP Sanjay Kundu 17 days of Earned Leave from March 11 to March 23, with permission to include March 9, 10, 24, and 25.
During this period, Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha, who currently serves as the Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services, will take charge as the interim DGP of Himachal Pradesh.
The order states that Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha will oversee the responsibilities of the DGP in addition to his existing duties, in the interest of public service.
This decision, aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning of law enforcement in Himachal Pradesh during DGP Sanjay Kundu's absence and find reasons and put in place corrections.
The notification to this effect was issued by the state government on March 7.
