Palestinian journalist in Gaza ruined by Israeli bombs

Big shoutout to Palestinian journalists braving the chaos in Gaza!...

NEW DELHI: They just snagged the 2024 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.

These folks are risking it all to keep us informed, and it's about time they got some recognition.

UNESCO's got their back, too, sending support to journos in hotspots like Ukraine, Sudan, and Haiti.

But let's face it, the situation's grim. Over in Gaza alone, 26 journalists have lost their lives since last October.

That's why this prize matters—it's a nod to the bravery of those out there reporting in the line of fire.

"UNESCO's not just handing out awards; they're putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to supporting journalists. They're not only giving out essential supplies to reporters in Gaza but also setting up safe spaces for them to work in. Plus, they're throwing emergency grants to journalists in places like Ukraine and Sudan.

But it's not just about gear and cash. They're also dishing out protective gear and training to journalists in Haiti, and backing independent media in Afghanistan. It's like they're building a whole support system for these brave souls risking it all to keep us informed.

And let's not forget their global efforts to promote journalist safety. They're spreading awareness, running training sessions, and making sure everyone's on board with the UN's plan to keep journalists safe and hold the bad guys accountable.

UNESCO's not just talking the talk; they're walking the walk when it comes to backing journalists in tough spots around the world."

And speaking of fire, UNESCO's also raising awareness about the damage to cultural sites in Gaza.

They're reminding everyone to play by the rules and keep those heritage spots out of harm's way.

But let's be real. International Law? It's like a joke to some.

The ones who made the rules seem to be the ones breaking 'em.

It's a messed-up world out there, and sadly, this crisis is just another painful reminder of how badly we've missed the mark, " commented a senior journo in Delhi.
