CHNADIGAR/GURUGRAM, AUGUST 17: India’s next-generation mobility revolution will depend not merely on shifting from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles, but on building a globally competitive ecosystem of batteries, semiconductors, software, advanced powertrains, charging infrastructure, recycling, artificial intelligence and skilled manpower.

The challenge before Haryana is to empower its automotive industry to bring cutting-edge e-mobility technologies to the region and help India compete with global e-mobility leaders.

The captains of industry  highlighted this at the 5th CII Next-Gen e-Mobility Summit, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Haryana in Gurugram on Monday under the theme ‘Driving India's Next-Generation Mobility Revolution’.

Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab are talking about eMobility, but states need a reliable network of charging stations, evehicles which are cheaper  and have  backups for a successful transition.

Industry leaders said Haryana, already one of India's major automotive manufacturing hubs, has the opportunity to become a centre for the design, development and manufacturing of advanced mobility solutions.

Tarun Garg, Chairman, CII Next-Gen eMobility Summit 2026 and Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said India’s ambition to lead next-generation mobility would require much deeper capabilities across batteries, semiconductors, critical minerals, software, vehicle engineering and recycling.

He stressed that India must develop affordable and sustainable mobility solutions suited to its diverse geographies and changing requirements.

The summit highlighted how countries that are ahead in e-mobility have built integrated ecosystems rather than treating electric vehicles simply as another category of automobiles. India, therefore, needs stronger localisation, technology development, innovation, charging networks, skills and investment to close the gap and build globally competitive supply chains.

Dr Aanchal Jain, CEO, PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., pointed to the economic advantage of electric vehicles through lower total cost of ownership, while stressing that accessible and reliable charging infrastructure will be critical for mass adoption. She also called for greater localisation, R&D and stronger implementation of the Make in India vision.

For Haryana, the opportunity is particularly significant. Saket Bhatia, Chairman, CII Haryana and Managing Director, Bony Polymers Pvt. Ltd., said the state should use its strong automotive base to support the next phase of EV growth by expanding charging infrastructure, encouraging battery-swapping and commercial fleet electrification, and enabling MSMEs and component manufacturers to access technology, finance, R&D and skilled manpower.

Vivek Jindal, Vice Chairman, CII Haryana and Director & CEO, UNO Minda Ltd., welcomed Haryana’s EV-friendly policy measures and stressed collaboration among industry, government, academia and technology companies to strengthen domestic supply chains, accelerate R&D and create future-ready talent.

Akhill Aggarwal, Chairman, CII Faridabad and Director, Sterling Tools Ltd., said the mobility transformation goes beyond electric vehicles and will be driven by the convergence of manufacturing, digitalisation, energy systems, infrastructure, technology, innovation and skills.

The summit, therefore, placed a larger question before Haryana: can the state move from being a major automobile manufacturing destination to becoming a technology and innovation hub for next-generation mobility? With the right policy support, investment climate and industry-government partnership, Haryana can position itself at the forefront of India's e-mobility transition and help bring globally competitive, cutting-edge mobility technologies to the region.
