Ms Justice Sabina, who is also a Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court, said the Human Rights Day is observed every year to create awareness of the people regarding the Right to Life, Equality, Liberty and Dignity to ensure the welfare of everyone and in particular of those who are unprivileged, poor, downtrodden, neglected, vulnerable and weaker sections of the society.
She visited Balika Ashram, Tutikandi and had interaction with the inmates. It was an enriching experience for the inmates to have valuable insights and motivation on interaction with Executive Chairperson, said the inmates.
Member secretary, HPSLA Prempal Ranta said the executive chairperson had an interaction with Jail inmates at Sub-Jail, Kaithu, Shimla. Jail inmates were sensitized about basic human rights of unprivileged class and relating to legal services to the prisoners, he said.
Ms Justice Sabina is also heading State High Powered Committee constituted by Supreme Court of India in Re:contagion of COVID-19 virus in prisons.
Executive Chairperson had also called a report on COVID-19 condition and vaccination status in the Jails. No inmate was found COVID-19 positive and more than 95% of the inmates have been vaccinated. Vaccination drive is still in progress in all the Jails, Ranta stated.
Ranta said the Human Rights Day has been observed at 11 District Legal Services Authorities and 48 Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committees level. Legal Services and Awareness Programmes were held in Jails, Child Care Institutions, Old Age Homes, Observation Homes, Slums, Labour Colonies throughout the State.
