Red Alert in Himachal: IMD warns of extremely heavy rain on July 6 in Kangra, Mandi & Sirmaur – SDRF, NDRF on standby
Shimla | July 4, 2025
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, has issued a Red Alert for July 6, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in three key districts of Himachal Pradesh – Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur.
The IMD bulletin warns of a possible spell of intense downpours that may trigger landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, and road blockades, especially in mid-hill and low-hill regions.
The department has also cautioned about localized disruptions in essential services like electricity, water, and transport due to potential damage from rain-induced incidents.
🌧️ Rainfall Likely to Intensify
Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the region from July 5 to July 7, with the most critical day being Sunday, July 6, when rainfall intensity may peak.
Advisory to Farmers
The weather office has advised farmers to avoid field operations during this period and postpone pesticide or fungicide applications.
Apple growers in affected areas have also been urged to protect their crates, irrigation pipes, and avoid orchard sprays till weather improves.
🧳 Warning to Tourists
With tourist footfall high in areas like Dharamshala, Barot, Renuka Ji and Churdhar during monsoon, tourists are being cautioned against venturing near riverbanks, waterfalls, or trekking routes during the alert period.
Local authorities are advising tourists to stay indoors and keep a close watch on official weather updates.
🛑 SDRF, NDRF Teams Put on High Alert
Keeping the monsoon vulnerabilities in mind, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been kept on standby across sensitive areas. Officials have reviewed preparedness and rescue logistics to respond swiftly in case of emergencies.
Travel May Be Affected
There is also a possibility of road closures in rain-battered zones like Jogindernagar, Paonta Sahib, and the Dharamshala-Shimla corridor. Commuters have been asked to check road conditions before planning travel.
The state administration has requested people to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain alerts, and report any emergency to local authorities or helpline numbers.
Stay updated. Stay safe.
