NEW DELHI: General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday assumed charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), taking over the baton from General Upendra Dwivedi at a crucial phase in the Indian Army's transformation and modernisation drive.
A decorated Armoured Corps officer with over four decades of distinguished military service, General Seth brings vast operational, command and strategic experience across some of the country's most critical theatres.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, he was commissioned into the Indian Army in December 1986.
During his illustrious career, General Seth has commanded an Armoured Brigade on the western front, led counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir, and headed the prestigious Sudarshan Chakra Corps.
He has also served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) Delhi Area and later led both the South Western Command and the Southern Command, playing a pivotal role in operational preparedness, defence planning and force modernisation.
Soon after taking over as Army Chief, General Seth paid tribute to the retiring senior officers, commending their selfless service and unwavering commitment to the nation.
He said their professionalism, leadership and values would continue to inspire future generations and contribute to nation-building long after they leave active military service.
With General Seth at the helm, the Indian Army is expected to further accelerate its focus on technological transformation, joint military operations and combat readiness to meet emerging security challenges.
